DIY Protein Bars in 5 Easy Steps
Tired of searching the shelves for the perfect protein bar? The ultimate on-the-go snack is rarely delicious and nutritious. Far too often they are packed with inordinate amounts of sugar, hydrogenated oil, preservatives, fillers and other nutritionally-void ingredients. And that’s why you need to start making them at home. The best part? These homemade protein bars take little more effort than throwing everything together in a pan and pressing.
1.5 cups peanut butter
½ cup honey
2 scoops of your preferred protein powder
3 cups dried oatmeal
- In a microwave, safe bowl combine peanut butter and honey for about 70-90 seconds.
- Add protein powder and oatmeal.
- Mix all of this (it will be thick).
- Press it into a 9 x 13-inch pan.
- Put it into the refrigerator to cool.
Tip: If you use too much honey it will be too moist. Too much protein powder and it will be too dry. You’ll need to play around with the amounts to find the right balance of desired texture for you. You can also get creative and add raisins, dried cranberries, chocolate chips or sliced almonds.
